                    our background

LinXus is the brainchild of Curtis Wilson, the Children and Youth Pastor at St. Andrews and St. Stephen’s Presbyterian. We are a Christian organization formed in 2007 that hosts youth rallies within BC and is founded out of the Westminster Presbytery from the Presbyterian Church in Canada (PCC)'s ministries program.  Our rallies originated for the purpose of building unity within the Presbyterian churches found in the Lower Mainland.  LinXus’ ultimate goal is to branch out to various denominations in hopes of gaining a sense of inter-church unity.

LinXus is founded on the passage Ephesians 2:15b “His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace…”.  The gospel was preached to both Jews and Gentiles for the purpose of unifying the two separate groups.  Too often, our denominations appear to re-create the division that once divided Jews and Gentiles.  LinXus hopes to gain a sense of unity in the midst of our various differences.

where'd the name linxus come from?

When LinXus first started out, the planning team struggled with what to call ourselves.  We wanted a name that was meaningful and that would become the identity for the goal of uniting the youth groups in the Westminster Presbytery.

Our initial idea was the name “Link”, but after finding out that the name was taken by PYPS’ newsletter, we didn’t want there to be any confusion.  Another name that had turned up was “Nexus” which in Latin means “the centre point of something” or even “the centre of various connections”.  Taking both of these ideas, the group  fused the two together, and thus LinXus was born!

The meaning behind this name is that at the centre of the word is “X”.  In Greek, “X” is commonly the letter used to refer to Christ (Cristos).  Thus we capitalize it so that Christ may stand out.  The name takes “Link” and the idea of “Nexus” in mind so we have at the centre: “Christ linking us together”.
